The Babbling Brook Tavern The Babbling Brook Tavern isn't like your typical tavern since it isn't housed in a building but instead under the sheltering limbs of a grove of magnificent oak trees. And like the name suggests there is a clear and cheery babbling brook which flows through the middle of it so take care as you cross from one side to the other when you visit the bar. Now comfortable seating is provided on cushioned chairs woven from willow boughs with matching footstools but there are no tables. Why this is only the owner of the tavern ~ Eryndil ~ knows and he isn't telling ~ unless the bribe is right.
So come on in and sit down! Partake of the fine food and drink while letting the soft sound of the babbling stream relax you.
~ Menu ~
Nectar of the Gods ~ This drink is as heavenly tasting as the name suggests. However it has been known to cause some strange side affects in non-Dinaerea due to its potent nature.
Cakes of Light ~ Just as the name implies these bite sized morsels of white fluff are delicate in taste and figure friendly too!
This is a IC thread only. Eryndil is the bartender and he will post in Bold Teal so please don't use that combo. There are no waiters/waitresses so all food and drink orders must be placed at the bar. Eryndil is also the bouncer and deadly accurate with bow and arrow so voiced ones beware! Any mis-behavior deemed over the top will be your last!
Have fun!
Any OOCs can be placed at the bottom of your posts.

A tall, lithe figure wrapped in a floor-length black cloak slipped inside the tavern and paused momentarily. Seeing only the bartender, Eryndil, it pushed its hood down, revealing a beautiful and haughty face. The face was framed by wavy black hair that fell freely to the woman's waist, and contained momentarily expressionless bright sapphire blue eyes. Her gown, though not visible under the cloak, was midnight blue silk with intricate embroidery.
Her name was Verdani, and she was one of the fabled Hyandae en'luhta. She was visiting the land of the Dinaerea to learn more of their magic and ways, in order to bring the information back to her people and the university in Pilin en'templa. She was one of the most powerful wielders of magic among a people that concerned itself primarily with magic, and it often went to her head. Her journey here had been long, but not difficult with her skills.
Luckily there were none of what she considered the "lesser" races present, so her face became suitably friendly. Verdani glided over to where Eryndil stood."Greetings. I am Verdani of Pilin en'templa," she spoke this proudly, "and have come to learn what I can of your people." She bowed gracefully to pay the proper respect, and then straightened. "Where do you think a curious visitor would be safe to observe?"

Rochindill was wondering the many kingdoms as he wished to become more enlightened and he also wanted to experience all the different cultures. A tall figure could be seen walking towards the Tavern, he had shoulder length brown hair and deep green eyes, the wind blew his cloak as he walked with a slient gracefull step. He thought this was the place looking around he realised he was right, He had entered a grove of tall oak trees and flowing through the middle there was a babbling brook. There were only two other present one he notice was a Hyandae en,lutha, the other was from here. He smiled to them "Greetings I am Rochindill of the kingdom Astalderea" He went closer to them and sat down near them, not getting to close as they might be weary of him.

Now Eryndil already knew about the presence of Verdani and Rochindill long before they had reached the tavern his border guards having informed him through his people's mind speech of their presence the moment they had seperately entered the woods. And since both had done so peacefully he had informed the guards to let them pass.
However it became quite clear to him while the Hyandae en'luhta spoke that she was one of those haughty Voiced ones who showed up from time to time with the nosy notion of learning all they could of the Dinaerea. But Eryndil didn't order her removal just yet for there could be great verbal sport yet to be had with this one. So instead he smiled back and gently brought his mind into contact with hers so he could think to her "Greetings Verdani of Pilin en'templa. My name is Eryndil (the fact that he was one of the rulers he left out since the lovely woman didn't need to know that for now). And the answer to your question is closer then you think." Now this last part he accompanied with a mysterious smile before he looked at Rochindill who apparently had enough common sense to know that haughtiness in a Voiced one here wasn't a good idea.
"Greetings Rochindill of the kingdom Astalderea. My name is Eryndil. What has brought you here so far from your home?" he asked once again through his gentle mind contact.

Verdani studied the Dinaer closely for a brief moment, and then sat in silence as he made mind contact with her. She was no stranger to this, since she had been able to do something similar through her magic. It had taken her years to master it, but she could reply in the same way, even if she did not currently. Eryndil didn't need to know everything about her. She certainly wasn't going to tell them that she ruled the valley of Pilin en'templa and the university there. He could, perhaps, read minds, but she could keep hers closed off.
She raised one delicate eyebrow at his response, and replied. "Perhaps. I do not claim to know all." A lot, yes, but not everything. That was why she was constantly searching for more knowledge. It occurred to her that the Dinaer thought her haughty, but his people were really no better in their seclusion, keeping the "Voiced Ones" away from them, as though they were inferior.
But, enough of those thoughts... If Eryndil could not read them exactly, he might be able to catch general tones. Another entered shortly after she did, one she recognized as one of the Darthiir. He introduced himself as Rochindil. Verdani thought well of his people, so saw no reason not to be polite to him. She gave him one of her most charming smiles and greeted him. "Well-met, Rochindil of Astalderea."

Now unknown to those already present in the Tavern, Ruya had been carefully watching each of them, concealed by perhaps more than a little shade. She sat completely still, but for her eyes which roved between three faces: two strangers, and one the face of her beloved. Her expression remains neutral as she gazes at them and watches the battle of wits that seems to be occuring between the Hyandae en'lutha and Eryndil. In recent years, they had been having more visitors to the Starlit Woods, which both pleased and displeased her. Ruya was a peaceful being and had never willingly participated in any fight that would harm another being - however, these visitors, these Voice Ones, always seemed to bring trouble with them. The female especially she would watch, her eyes carefully looking her up and down. She seemed learned, but knowledge did not always confer wisdom. "Greetings, fair Voiced One" she thought, reaching out to the stranger (Verdani), "I am Ruya, welcome to our lands." Her thoughts dripped with coldness, though they were not negative, simply cautious, as were all her people with strangers.
She turned her thoughts next to the male visitor (Rochindil). Interesting, this one.. and more humble. He even sat at a bit of a distance, as if he understood the nature of the Silent Ones. He would fit in better with their people, if he showed the same humility and respect for all forms of life. Still, one could not judge so easily. "Hello..." she thought, penetrating his mind gently, for it could be a shocking experience for one not accustomed to it. "I am Ruya, welcome to Silmataurea." Now, stepping out of where she sat silently, Ruya made her way to where Eryndil was standing and looked at him knowingly. They knew each other so well that the discernment of his thoughts was second nature. She acquired them both a glass of Nectar of the Gods and invited the two visitors to have a drink as well.

Rochindill was pleased to notice that both Eryndil and Ruya spoke to him through mind contact. He had heard that the people of this place could do these things yet it was but a myth were her was from, smiling he crept closer but still left a bit of distance. "I have come here to your peaceful land not for war but for peace, I only wish to be able to understand your ways and customs nothing more and nothing less, It is true I am a long way from home but my aim is to visit the whole region and to record in a private journal of mine all I have found" He noticed that a person of Pilin en'templa, he smiled at her " It is good to meet you" He did not show anything else he had had dealings with her people before and they had not all been pleasant.

"Then what is it that you do claim to know?" Eryndil thought to Verdani in an innocent way with a smile that held a hint of mischief in it.
Meanwhile Rochindill had replied by now and had revealed that he too was there for knowledge about the Dinaerea but only for himself. "To enhance your knowledge is a noble undertaking. But I can't help but to think you wish to gain more from this," Eryndil thought to the Darthiir with a suspicious look while he watched out of the corner of one eye his beloved and co-ruler Ruya emerging from the darkest shadows in the tavern. And when he saw her knowing look he winked back at her subtly for he knew her so well that he didn't have to hear what she had said to the visitors to know its tone. Then he accepted the large silver goblet of Nectar from her which was a honey colored liquid and since he was sure she had also invited the two visitors to have a drink with them he then filled two smaller silver goblets and place one in front of each.
"This is called the Nectar of the Gods, a very potent drink. While we Dinaerea can drink this in large amounts without feeling any side effects we have learned that most visitors may not be able to do the same," Eryndil thought to Verdani and Rochindill as he served them.

He looked down at the silver goblet set down before him, he recalled that it was called Nectar of Gods, he decided to take a sip it would not be wise not to, he just hoped that nothing bad would happen to him. He slowly lifted the goblet to his mouth and poured a little into his throat, to him it tasted of the nicest things that one could ever taste. He liked it so much he had quickly downed it all in one.

Verdani was pleased to see Rochindil return her greeting. although it seemed he was somewhat hesitant. She knew that her people had not always been on the best of terms with other races, but they were not cruel, for the most part. Some were, it was true, but it was the same among any other race. Smiling again, she made a polite inquiry "How does your land fare? It is long since I journeyed hither."
Her mind picked up Eryndil's sly question just then, and she turned her bright eyes on him. It was tempting to answer in the same mind speech, but she continued to speak aloud for the benefit of those who could not do so. "My people make a study of magic in all of its forms, and I am not excluded from this. We all are curious by nature, and as such prone to prying and poking, even when it may not be wise." Her words could easily reflect her current situation, she knew. Her journey here had perhaps not been wise, since the Dinaerea were known to dislike visitors, but she had come anyway.
A woman of the Dinaerea emerged then from the shadows of the tavern and reached out to contact her, introducing herself as Ruya. The coldness in her tone was not lost on Verdani, and she replied in a like manner. "Greetings. I am Verdani of Pilin en'templa." She did not doubt that all of this information had already been conveyed to her by Eryndil, but thought it polite to give it nonetheless.
Hearing Eryndil speak to Rochindil of the nobility of enhancing one's knowledge, her lips twitched as she hid a smile. So it was noble for him to seek information, but not for her? Her motives were not evil. She simply wished to know more about these reclusive people, and perhaps share what she learned with her students and the council at the university, which was known throughout the world as a beacon of knowledge.
Shrugging a bit, she shifted her attention to the drink set in front of her and smiled at its name. Nectar of the Gods... And only the Dinaerea could drink it without side effects. Verdani did not say anything of her own people's origin, since they never confirmed nor denied the myth that they were descendents of or a lesser form of gods. But, in any case, she would not feel many side effects, either. "I shall be careful not to become intoxicated by so fine a drink, then." She finally said aloud with a slight smile, and delicately lifted her glass to take a sip.

Ruya sipped the Nectar slowly, feeling the invigorating liquid slip slowly down her throat. She eyed Eryndil as she did so, noting his judgment of the two visitors. Just, as always. She nodded slowly, looking first at Rochindil. "We are pleased to have you here" she thought sincerely, as he spoke of his intentions. His journal intrigued her and without wanting to intrude much, she gently asked "What other places have you seen?" Ruya spent most of her time taking care of her kingdom, healing hurts and maintaining the peace within its borders. However, she was still interested in what was going on in other parts of the world, especially if those places threatened the peace and tranquility of Silmataurea. "Do you like the Nectar of the Gods?" she wondered, observing him to see if it had any effect on his mind or body that she might already perceive.
Now it was obvious that this Verdani was intelligent, an attribute she admired. However, all too often intelligence breeded a sense of superiority. Ruya had noticed this of many of the great magicians of the past, and she wondered if perhaps Verdani was one of them. She would find out soon enough. Ruya was almost tempted to chuckle at the way the woman's lip quirked upward and her sarcasm regarding the drink. "A fine idea" she conveyed to Verdani and raised an eyebrow. This one might be a bit of fun, though she would not let her guard down. "Tell me about Pilin en'templa" she asked by ways of conversation. She knew about it already, but it was often interesting to hear how visitors perceived their own birthland.
The Nectar refreshed her enough to relax slightly more, confident that neither of these were much of a threat to the kingdom. Her eyes occasionally drifted to Eryndil, her thoughts whispering secret words between them. What they were, only he would know, for she encrypted them, using words that only meant something to the two of them. Her stare was brief but clear, until her eyes returned to Rochindil and Verdani.

Meanwhile the tavern was slowly filling with Dinaerea who were giving Verdani and Rochindill suspicious looks while Eryndil served them their drinks and food. Now there were a few of the more hot headed males ~ those who were young and eager to prove themselves ~ which the ruler had to warn away from the visitors with a stern thought and look on his face. And while this was enough to make the majority of them drop their notion of confronting the visitors it wasn't enough for one who left the tavern in disgust.
After that Eryndil mentally summoned a guard and sent him to keep an eye on the young one and to prevent him from harming Verdani and Rochindill in case they should leave the tavern. Then he was finally was able to enjoy his own goblet of nectar while he received from Ruya her encrypted thoughts. Now the subject matter briefly brought to his eyes a certain kind of light that would have led to him responding back to her in a physical way that would surely please his beloved. But since they were obviously not alone he instead sent back his own encrypted thoughts on the matter with a slight wink.

Sipping her drink in silence, Verdani noticed the number of Dinarea now entering the tavern. It was plenty obvious to her that they disliked any outsiders, judging from the looks she and Rochindil were given. She repressed a sigh and rested her chin in one hand. This happened unusually often whenever she traveled, no matter what land she visited. That was part of the reason she preferred her people- they seemed to her to be more welcoming than some of these. But they had to be, since other races were forever coming to study at the university.
Verdani was certainly capable of defending herself, however, and anyone who attacked her would be in for an unpleasant surprise. A servant of the darkness had once attacked her in her own hall in Pilin en'templa... He had gone back to his homeland severely scarred, yet alive. She hadn't been cruel enough to kill, though she would have been justified. Some of her council members thought she was weak because she avoiding killing enemies if she could.. always a source of contention at home.
Her thoughts of troubles at home were broken by Ruya's request to be told of Pilin en'templa. Did the Dinaer already know what the valley was like? Verdani couldn't be sure, but went ahead anyway. "Pilin en'templa is in the mountains to the west, spread between several valleys there." It was the one of the closest kingdoms to Silmataurea, actually. Part of her reason for coming here was to speak with the rulers in an official capacity about something. She may have forgotten to tell her council that. But, then again, they wouldn't have been able to stop her had they known, anyway.
"The university, where almost all folks with magic are sent to study, is in the largest and central of the valleys. It's a marvelous place, full of magic and learning. There are always people out and about, talking to each other, sharing ideas, arguing and debating, trying out new magic... The city itself is beautiful, too. The buildings are all of a lovely kind of stone, and the tallest tower of the university reaches into the sky. It takes a long time to get to the top, of course... But it makes people decide if they really want to go through the trouble of petitioning the ruler, since her reception hall is up there. But, then again, they usually tend to find her when she's somewhere else in Pilin, too..." The last several comments were more than she should have said, and she fell silent, hoping that they would think she was merely an acquaintance of the ruler, instead of actually being the ruler. Verdani really needed to find their ruling couple before she said something really stupid. Her sapphire eyes studied the drink in front of her, wondering if it had more effect on her than she'd thought it would.

Mmmm. Ruya's thoughts strayed ever so briefly when she received those of Eryndil and she turned her eyes to meet his. They would have to finish that little 'conversation' later. Realizing how the tavern is slowly filling up, her lips quirk upwards into a pleasant smile. It was also nice to see other Dinaerea around and at once she sensed the discord that was brought to their minds by the presence of these strangers. She closed her eyes and sent out thoughts of calm, hoping to bring more peace to the atmosphere of the tavern. "They will not harm any in Silmataurea" her thoughts conveyed. Once she reassured that most of the patrons had adjusted at least in part to the presence of these others, she turned her eyes back to Rochindil and Verdani, the latter one receiving her attention first.
Her description of the physical beauty of Pilin en 'templa brought a smile to her lips and an image to her mind. It had been long since she had seen the place and no doubt, many things had changed since then. She approved of the studious nature of the people though, as she too felt that learning magic was important, as long as it was used responsibly. The magic of the Dinaerea was of course different and used for healing, but she could respect other types of magic. Now Ruya's eyebrow thingyed slightly at the woman's last words. She studied her face carefully and pierced her thoughts with the words "Perhaps you are more powerful than you make it seem, is that an accurate assessment?" She was neither displeased nor pleased by the revelation. Whoever she was and her association with Pilin en 'templa's ruler, it was important that they be on good terms. "Perhaps I shall return with you on your journey back, it has been long since I have been there. And I would be interested in 'meeting' this ruler..."

Rochindill had sat there for ages now lost in complete thought, it was then that he realised that the drink he had just drank had caused an effect upon him which he had been warned about. Finnaly the phase had stopped and he was able to talk again "This is such a beautiful place it reminds me a bit of my homeland" he said it to no one in particular, as if it was his private thought but he had said it out aloud.
